Ski Lessons for Little Ones 🎿 Travelling with young children? If your little ones are **under 5 and you’re looking for ski lessons**, get in touch with us directly. Some ski schools don’t accept children under 5, but we have a great local ski instructor, **Pip Lister**, who is experienced in teaching younger children and can offer lessons suited to their age and ability.
The Gondola
The Bansko gondola starts from the lower station at the top of town and takes you up into the Pirin Mountains, with the journey to **Banderishka Polyana at around 1,635m** taking approximately 25 minutes. During the winter ski season, the gondola generally operates from around 08:00am, with the last descent in the afternoon. Times can vary depending on the season and conditions, so it’s always worth checking the current operating times before heading up. The gondola can get busy, particularly around opening time and during peak holiday periods. **Arriving early is usually the best way to avoid the longest queues.** Around the lower gondola station you’ll find **ski and snowboard rental shops, ski schools, cafés, restaurants, lockers and other useful facilities**, making it the main starting point for a day on the mountain.
Apres Ski
Bansko knows how to ski — and it definitely knows how to **après**. Once the lifts close, the fun is only just getting started. Head down from the mountain and you’ll find bars buzzing with skiers, cold beers flowing, music playing and the unmistakable sound of people swapping stories about their best — and worst — runs of the day. From lively après spots around the **gondola and Pirin Street** to the cosy, atmospheric mehanas tucked away in the Old Town, there’s something for every mood. Fancy a few beers and some music? Easy. Want traditional Bulgarian food, rakia and live folk music? You’re in the right place. And don't worry about getting dressed up — **ski boots, snow trousers and a slightly questionable tan are perfectly acceptable après attire.** The best bit? In Bansko, **après-ski doesn’t have to mean the end of the day.** It can quite easily be the beginning of the night.

Get Your Ski Hire Sorted Before You Arrive Christmas, New Year and February half-term can be busy in Bansko. If you're travelling during these weeks, arranging your ski or snowboard hire in advance can save time and hassle on arrival.
Don't Leave Getting to the Gondola Until the Last Minute The gondola can get busy, especially during peak holiday weeks. An early start can help you avoid some of the longest queues and give you more time on the mountain. Always check the current lift opening times.
A Gondola Locker Can Be Worth Its Weight in Gold If you're skiing for several days, a locker near the gondola can be really handy. No more carrying your boots, helmets and equipment back and forth through town every day.
Don't Spend All Day on the Mountain Bansko is as much about the town as it is about the skiing. Take time to explore the Old Town, enjoy a traditional Bulgarian lunch, or settle into one of the many mehanas after a day on the slopes.
